Fall 2008-2009 Program Begins

Our 2008-2009 school year program began on September 22.

Our students will:

- receive tutoring,

- participate in educational     sessions

- participate in enrichment activities

Summer Was A Success

UYA students were employed at 26 worksites.  We placed an additional eight FAME students who were employed along with UYA students.  Work placements included but were not limited to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Allegheny County Law offces, CVS Pharmacy, the New Pittsburgh Courier, and WQED TV.

The educational component served a new group of 30 ninth graders.  Their highlight was attendance at the 4-week Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) program at Penn State-McKeesport.  They also went on a variety of field trips including trips to Fallingwater and Heinz Field.

Forty-five students from the Housing Authority City of Pittsburgh were also served.  Their educational experience focused on workforce development training and career interests and possibilities.

Summer included a three-day tour of Allegheny College in  Meadville, PA.   Students in grades 9-12 were hosted by Terrance Mitchell, assistant to the president for institutional diversity.
